ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) – Two brothers are charged in connection to a shooting that has left a 3-year-old boy in critical condition.

William Hampton, 18, and Jerry Hampton, 17, are charged with eight counts, including armed criminal action, assault and unlawful use of a weapon.

The incident happened at East Grand and Blair in the College Hill neighborhood at 8 p.m. Saturday near the Grand Avenue Water Tower.

Police said the boy was riding in a car with his father and another man when they were attempting to make a left turn on Grand from Interstate 70 when a Toyota Avalon allegedly driven by William Hampton almost struck them. The father then rolled down his window and made a comment to William.

As they turned right onto Blair, Jerry Hampton, who was a passenger in the car driven by William, allegedly fired several shots, striking the 3-year-old in the head. The two adults in the child's vehicle were not injured during the incident.

The toddler was driven to a hospital by his father and is listed in critical condition.

Each brother is being held on a $200,000 cash-only bond.

This is the second case in a week a 3-year-old has been shot riding in a car on North City streets.

On June 14, a 3-year-old girl was grazed by a bullet after police say a road rage incident led to gunfire.

Police say they are still looking for the driver accused of shooting the little girl.
