FENTON, Mo. (KMOV,com) -

Thieves stole dirt bikes and go karts from a Fenton business, police say.

In total, authorities believe $25,000 worth of merchandise was stolen from Fenton Power Sports when thieves broke into three storage trailers behind the business. 12 dirt bikes and 11 go karts were taken. Three of the go karts were smaller models, but eight were larger. Some of the large go karts weigh as much as 350 pounds.

“At first I was in shock and second I was glad that’s all they took because they could have broken into the main store and destroyed things here and done more damage,” said Fenton Power Sports owner Brent Trunko.

Surveillance cameras captured the image of someone possibly casing out the business the night before. The thieves allegedly knocked out the camera before it could record them carrying out the thefts the next night.

“It’s terrible, especially to pick on a small business, a person just making an honest living. We work really hard for everything we have here. We’ve grown the business over 12 years and to take a hit like this hurts,” said Trunko.

The dirt bikes and go karts were unassembled in boxes. If the thieves try to sell them, each go kart and dirt bike has VIN number that can link the seller back to the crime.
