ST. CHARLES COUNTY, Mo. (KMOV.com) -- Domestic violence is on the rise and St. Charles County prosecutors said the level of abuse is getting worse.

St. Charles County Prosecuting Attorney Tim Lohmar told News 4 many of the victims are being terrorized and controlled by people they love so it is not easy to put abusers behind bars, which is why evidence-based prosecutions are important.

Lohmar said photographs of the aftermath of the abuse can be the key to successful evidence-based prosecutions. He also said his office works to protect victims so they feel comfortable coming forward and cooperating throughout the prosecution.
