ST. PETERS, Mo. (KMOV.com) – Organizers of the second annual Pride St. Charles Festival are taking steps to ensure the safety of all participants following the Orlando attack.

Organizers told News 4 they have heard from those planning to attend that they are worried about safety. They said police will be in full force at the event.

Jill Aul, the co-chair of the event, said they will either see an increase in the amount of attendees because they want to stand in solidarity with the LGBT community or there will be less people because of fear.

“We spent a lot of time, a large amount of time talking about security, and what the needs might be and what we can do to make everybody feel safe and make sure that any concerns are addressed,” Aul said. “We’re also keeping a very close eye on all of our social media sites for anything at all suspicious, we’re training our volunteers to be on the lookout, if you see something say something.”

Organizers of next weekend’s PrideFest St. Louis said they will also have added security.
