GODFREY, Ill. (KMOV.com) – A Godfrey couple donated a life-saving device to the fire department after firefighters used CPR to save his life.

Jess Woodman told News 4 he can’t remember much about the incident, but his wife, Ginger, said he went into cardiac arrest inside their home, suddenly falling and losing consciousness. An ambulance crew took a while to get their home because they took a wrong turn, but thankfully the fire department was there and two firefighters were able to perform CPR on him.

When Woodman arrived at the hospital, doctors could not explain how he made it.

“It would have been very different, I wouldn’t be here today. There’s no question people were placed at the right place, at the right time. It not a coincidence, they saved my life, that’s what it comes down to,” said Woodman.

Following the incident, the couple said they wanted to thank those who saved his life so they donated a RES-Q CPR device, which costs about $1,200, to the department.
