EAST ST. LOUIS ( – A local hospital is left without power overnight and they say they do not expect the power to be back on until the morning on June 16.

Firefighters responded to Touchette Hospital in the afternoon on June 15 and they say they are still providing emergency air conditioning eight hours later.

Officials say none of the hospital’s patients have been evacuated and they are staying comfortable in the heat.

According to officials, they are waiting for parts to arrive in the morning before they can make the necessary repairs.

Firefighters are on the scene, cooling the building down with portable air conditioning units. They also brought generators to power medical equipment.

Crews have been at the hospital since around 2 p.m. when they responded to a fire sparked by faulty wiring.

News 4 Chief Meteorologist Steve Templeton reported June 15 was the hottest day of the year thus far, reaching 99 degrees. Officials say they are glad the incident did not happen during the hottest part of the day.

“In the boiler room, the fire chief told us it was 300 degrees. They've actually got it cooled down to last I heard it was 180 [degrees], so they're doing a good job on that,” said Herb Simmons, St. Clair County EMS. “Some of the hospital has power so they're moving some of the patients around there. The hospital’s doing an excellent job as they always do, and the patients are good. Some of them probably don't even know what's going on.”

Officials say the hospital followed its emergency operation plan and is diverting incoming patients to other area hospitals.

The parts needed for repairs are expected to arrive at 8:30 a.m. and the power should working properly around that designated time.
