ST. PETERS, Mo. ( -

The brother of the woman who police say drowned her two children before lighting the house on fire is struggling to understand what happened inside the St. Peters home.

Leon Ayers, brother of the mother, Jenny Ayers said, "This is something we never could have thought in a million years, never would have thought."

The family says they are still trying to wrap their heads around the tragic situation. Leon says his focus is on his 10-year-old nephew, Jordie and his 5-year-old niece, Jada.

“My nephew Jordie was full of life,” said Leon. “Jada, she was a little angel, she could come in a room and it would light up.”

Police say the two children drowned in the bath tub at their St. Peters home. Investigators say their mother, 37-year-old Jenny Ayers was responsible. She then set the house on fire, killing herself.

“We love Jenny. I forgive her. She had a really big heart, she loved her kids no matter what happen. Because we’ll never understand that,” said Leon.

Leon says the family knew Jenny struggled. He says the family moved Jenny and the kids from Florida to live in St. Peters with Jenny’s mother. But Leon says that struggle was deeper than they could have imagined.

Jordie and Jada both attended Fairmount Elementary. The school is holding a candle light vigil during the evening on June 15.

The family says they are working to come up with the funds for the three funerals. If you would like to donate, visit the funding page.
