(KMOV.com) – The mass shooting in Orlando is drawing a strong reaction from the Muslim community in St. Louis.

During a press conference on Sunday, Muslim leaders didn’t hold back the disgust and anger they feel toward the massacre in Florida. They continued to stress that the actions of the shooter has absolutely nothing to do with the Islamic faith.

“We stand today as one nation mourning this great tragedy and great loss,” said Mufti Asif Omar, who works with the Islamic Foundation of Greater St. Louis. “We have to really pray for all the victims during this time.”

The leaders asked politicians and the media not to assign guilt to the Muslim religion as a whole.

“Targeting innocent people no matter what their beliefs…(is) contrary to the basic of humanity,” said Ghazala Hayat. Hayat also works with the IFGS. “We stand with our law enforcement agencies, fellow Americans, and other nations to fight this ongoing war against terrorists.”

Leaders say it is vital that everyone unites during this time and keep the victims in thoughts and prayers.
