ST. LOUIS, Missouri (KMOV) – Friends held a vigil for the owner of Sam’s St. Louis Packing Company Saturday evening.  The owner was shot Thursday morning and is in the hospital recovering.  Clarence Edwards is a customer who wants the victim to know the community is praying for him.

“This is our neighborhood we have always been united and that is why everyone is out here now,” said Edwards.

Like Edwards, Robin McCalebb said hopeful the victim will get better.

“We just want him to get well. We want the store to stay in the neighborhood because this is all we have right here. I don't know what else to say because I'm crying right now. I am so sorry,” said McCalebb.

Authorities said this all went down around 8:30 a.m. Thursday morning. Someone shot the owner behind the counter. Investigators said several witnesses were inside the store.  Police said the victim may have been in an ongoing feud with someone, but McCalebb can’t imagine who the feud would be with.

“To me, I don't even understand it. I really don't. we need to stop all of this right here. This is crazy out here. We need to start doing something in this neighborhood,” said McCalebb.

Authorities tell us the victim was shot at least once in the face, and at last check his condition is very serious.   The suspect is a black male between 20 - 30 years of age. He is between 5'8" - 5'10'', thin build, mustache and a goatee that extends from his chin about an inch. He is seen on camera wearing grey sweat pants, grey t-shirt and a dark grey or black hooded sweatshirt.
