(KMOV.com) – A couple in Franklin County was sentenced to four months of “shock time” behind bars after they robbed a video game store while their one-year-old infant was with them.

Oscar Rivera and Ciera Ruengert were charged with attempted armed robbery and endangering the welfare of a child, but only served 110 days in jail.

“It’s ridiculous and I think the system is too lenient,” said David Li, the owner of the Game Stop Ruengert and Rivera robbed. “They could have killed me if I didn’t open the cash drawer. If I didn’t have a gun, they would have just robbed everything from us.”

The attempted robbery happened in January, when Ruengert went inside to rob the store while Rivera sat and waited in the car with the baby.

News 4 reached out to the judge who handed down the sentence, but he was out of the office all week. Both Ruengert and Rivera are on probation for the next five years.
