Man killed, woman injured when speeding vehicle hit Bridgeton building, police say

BRIDGETON, Mo. (KMOV.com) – A man was killed and a woman was injured when the vehicle they were in crashed in Bridgeton Thursday morning.

The vehicle crashed into the Baker Chiropractic and Acupuncture building, located in the 11550 block of St. Charles Rock Road, around 2:45 a.m.

According to police, the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed on westbound Missouri 180 when it struck a concrete traffic island, a road sign and traveled into the eastbound lanes, where it struck the concrete traffic island a second time, traveled back into the westbound lanes, crossed the center line, traveled to the left side of the roadway and became airborne. While airborne the vehicle struck an electronic sign and overturned into a parking lot, striking the side of a building.

The driver, 41-year-old Sean Mitchell, was pronounced dead at the hospital following the crash.

The vehicle’s passenger, described as a 32-year-old woman, was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

A News 4 photographer at the scene noted that it appeared at least one person had to be cut from the vehicle following the crash.
