ST. LOUIS, Mo. ( – Officers with the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department are investigating two armed robberies in downtown St. Louis Monday night.

The first robbery occurred when the Blues finished Game 7 in their first-round Western Conference series at Scottrade Center. The robbery happened near the corner of Locust and Broadway. Police said a 30-year-old man was walking when a suspect approached him and took out a gun. The two suspects demanded the man’s phone and backpack. The victim was not injured.

The second robbery happened at 10:30 p.m. at 8th and Spruce Street. Officer say two men and a woman were walking when the same two men approached them, displayed a gun and demanded their property. The suspects took a cell phone and purse and fled west on Spruce. Police say the suspects were seen getting away in a white Dodge Charger. None of the victims were injured.

Thousands of people were downtown during these incidents. Police say a large number of officers were on patrol. But Tim Fairley lives along Spruce St. and says he has concerns about what he did not see Monday night.

“I rarely see a cop car along here ever. I can probably count in 4 years one cop car. Other than when the Cardinals play up that way, I never see a cop car drive by here ever,” said Fairley.

News 4 Reporter Cory Stark says he noticed the same thing as Fairley while he was walking along Spruce St. on April 13 when the Cardinals and Blues were in town.

Police say restaurants along Spruce St. hire secondary officers to patrol.
