COLLINSVILLE, Ill. (KMOV.com) – A large police presence in Collinsville was allegedly for nothing after numerous police departments were called in to assist following a report of a home burglary. Police say that the homeowner may have been having a psychotic episode and probably made the story up.

According to police, the multiple departments were called to a home in the 5500 block of Sugar Loaf Road around 9 a.m. after they received a call about a home burglary. The homeowner reportedly called police to say someone broke into his home. During the call, the homeowner told police there was an intruder in his attic and another person in the basement.

Authorities were able to get two people who live inside the home out. The homeowner told police two suspects are still inside the residence. That was apparently not the case, as police later found out the homeowner lied about intruders being in the home.

"When we have a situation where we believe we have somebody either barricaded or  locked inside of a residence or something like that, we make a call to what we call a tactical team," Asst. Collinsville Police Department Chief Brett Boerm, said.

For more than four hours, a tactical unit and seven police agencies worked the scene as if the alleged intruders were in the home. After all that time, police discovered there had not been a break-in. Police are now questioning the homeowner and whether there will be charges filed.
