NORTH ST. LOUIS COUNTY (KMOV.com) -

An employee of a North County Target is facing charges in connection to a gift card scam worth thousands of dollars.

Authorities allege Gary Jones, 18, of Uplands Park, issued seven gift cards each worth $2,000 on March 14, but the gift cards were not paid for.

Jones told police a stranger approached him inside the store a few days earlier and said he could make $3,000 if he loaded money onto gift cards for him, court document claim.

On the day the gift cards were issued, Jones allegedly met the man in a restroom at Target. He allegedly gave Jones two gift cards worth $3,000 before the two went to a cash register where police believe Jones handed over the seven gift cards he loaded.

Jones is being held in the St. Louis County Jail on a $10,000 bond.
