ST. LOUIS (KMOV) – One of the busiest intersections in the Delmar Loop will close for nearly two weeks for construction on the Loop Trolley.

Skinker and Delmar will close starting Monday morning at 5:00 a.m as crews begin to finish the 2.2 mile trolley project.

Businesses like Blueprint Coffee, which sits at the east end of the Loop, are preparing for the 12 day closure.

“We’re anticipating a potential slow down just because it will be harder to get here from both directions but so far construction hasn’t effected business too much,” said Mike Marquard, Manager of Blueprint Coffee.

Crews will work around the clock to reduce the number of days the busy intersection will remain closed. Drivers can take Forest Park Parkway as an east-west alternative and Big Bend or DeBaliviere Ave for north-south alternatives.

A spokesperson for the project says closing the entire intersection was the choice they felt would have the least impact.

Temporary ADA and pedestrian crossings will be installed for people heading to the Loop on foot.

Trolley construction is around 85 percent complete and businesses say they're for it to reach 100 percent.

“When we opened our business two years ago we knew about the trolley, that was part of our hope that Delmar would continue to come alive,” said Marquard.
