EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (KMOV.com) – Students at Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville held a rally aimed at lawmakers on Friday.

The rally, called “Save Illinois Higher Ed,” was aimed at urging lawmakers to pause their political agenda and defend higher education. Students said the financial fabric must be ironed out.

Given the state’s current financial situation, the school could see up to $14 million in cuts for the next school year. The financial woes could also include slashing more than 137 administrative and non-tenure track instructor positions, which could reduce 300 classes and increase time to graduate.
