(KMOV.com) - As political season ramps up, the calls keep coming.

Campaigns, companies and even charities seem to always be calling your phone. Frustrating, right? But what if you're on the do-not-call list?

Sometimes, that doesn't matter.

News 4 Investigates has been to the Federal Trade Commission in D.C. questioning them about enforcement of the list.

The challenge is overseas companies who don't give a rip about US laws. The FTC encourages you to file complaints but some News 4 viewers say those seem to go unanswered.

FTC official told News 4 even if they don't contact you back, the complaints are crucial to their investigations. They've brought enforcement action against 105 companies and work investigations every day.

States are getting involved too. In 2015, the Missouri Attorney General reached a settlement with a company for more than $500,000 dollars for no-call and telemarketing violations. All to get people a little relief from the ring.

There are some exceptions to the do-not-call list, so people can call about political campaigns or if they're from a non-profit or charity, or from a business that you've contacted within the last 18 months.
