CAHOKIA, Ill. (KMOV.com) – Residents say they are concerned about safety hazards that are present at a park in Cahokia.

Residents say the only park in Cahokia is a “danger zone.”

Ramone Parker is a regular at the park and said, “It is really dangerous. See, they got a missing pole spot right there. A kid could fall or hit their head out there or something.”

Inside the park there is a bridge without proper rails, light poles cut with loose wires and cracked and buckled pavement. Residents say these types of problems have been an issue for years.

Residents say the city was aware of the issues of the park, but nothing was done. So they contacted News 4.

William Williams, resident of Cahokia said, “Somebody’s going to get killed on this bridge. I don’t even like pushing my bike across it.”

News 4 contacted the city but officials said they have never heard such concerns from residents. The city’s executive assistant says safety is a top priority.

After the city was contacted by News 4, city workers were seen getting ready to fix the bridge by News 4 Reporter Justin Andrews.

City leaders say the other issues, like hanging wires and buckled pavement, will be fixed in a few months.
