HAZELWOOD, Mo. ( – Some parents in the Hazelwood School District are planning to rally during Tuesday night’s school board meeting.

Parents have been vocal about not only the cuts coming to the district but the lack of information initially offered about them. Now, many parents are calling for state auditors to step in.

The Parent Action Committee plans to rally outside the Board of Education meeting with the goal of getting parents and community members to sign a petition that would push the state to independently audit the district.

In February, the district proposed major budget cuts to programs like band and gym. The proposal left parents with unanswered questions about administrative spending.

Parents said they are working to reverse the cuts but the school board refuses to meet with them. They said the rally is the only way they feel their voices will be heard.

Last week, the district announced Dr. Nettie Collins-Hart would be the new superintendent.
