ST. PETERS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

Police are searching for thieves who burglarized three jewelry stores in St. Peters in a 1.5 hour span very early Monday morning.

A crew of four suspects hit Harris Jewelers. The owner said they used a brick to smash a store window and cases of jewelry. He also believes the culprits scouted out and studied the store because the most expensive jewelry was taken.

“They hit the more expensive cases so they had to have scoped me out. It’s unsettling and unfortunate,” said Harris Jewelers owner Bill Harris.

The suspects also allegedly struck at the Diamond Shoppe on Mexico Road and Smith’s Jewelry and Coin. The thefts occurred between 12:00 a.m. and 1:30 a.m. In each burglary, a brick was used to smash a window and jewelry cases.

Police believe the suspects wanted to steal from Indigo Jewelry, but officers were waiting nearby, causing the suspects to drive away as soon as they pulled up to the store.

All three stores hit by the suspects have surveillance video, but the thieves wore gloves and hoods, making it tough to identify them.

However, police recovered the car used in all three burglaries and are looking into leads.
