(KMOV.com) - A Missouri lawmaker is stepping up to try and stop the epidemic of identity theft in the St. Louis area.

If your identity and tax refund gets stolen, the IRS allows you to apply for an IP PIN number. Up until now, the IRS has only issued an IP PIN to victims of identity theft. Congresswoman Ann Wagner says she wants to change that and make it available to all taxpayers who want it and says the IP PIN could cut down on fraud.

Wagner encourages any taxpayer in her district that is dealing with refund fraud to call her office.
