ST. CHARLES, Mo. (KMOV.com) – St. Charles County is one of the top 25 places for tech companies, according to a recent report from the Progressive Policy Institute.

Randy Schilling, creator of OPO Startups in St. Charles County, does not view his company as a competition with the City of St. Louis but instead as a third leg to Cortex and T-Rex.

Schilling told News 4 his company’s goal is to plug in with the rest of the startup community in the region and give tech workers or digital startups in St. Charles County a place closer to home to work.

Since opening last May, about 40 startups and 75 to 80 members use the space to work with each other, create new businesses and look for ways to develop their business.

“They are getting programing support, you know coding-type things, sales, marketing. There’s a class going on upstairs today about pricing strategies. So there’s an education component but more than anything it’s about how do you get smart people together to create new businesses and that’s really what OPO is about,” said Schilling.

With the need for more tech workers in the county, Schilling said he is also working with local superintendents to get kids into the STEM field early on.
