NORTH ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) -

Authorities are investigating a grocery store fire that could mean a big loss for one north St. Louis neighborhood.

The Ali Market on Martin Luther King caught fire just after 6 a.m. Friday.  B. J Davis said he hopes this store gets back up and running.

“The community is going to be hurt. What store they gone go to now. They going to have to go way down the street to that one or way down the street to the gas station,” said Davis.

For many in the community, the market was their primary stop for groceries and other goods.  Davis said he’s had so many memories at the store.

“Since I was like a little boy probably about 8 or 9.  Pizza be real good and all that,” said Davis.

Like Davis, Alderman Jeffery Boyd is concerned about the impact on his ward.

“It adds another sore eye to our community here and we been working so hard \. To try to make this another great place to live. And I'm very disappointed,” said Boyd.

The fire is under investigation.
