ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) – A middle school student created an inspiring league as part of a school project.

Seventh grader Grace Meier came up with the idea to host the only youth wheelchair basketball league in the region as part of an assignment for science class.

“My students are given the task of coming up with something they’re passionate about, a project idea, and then developing that project and connecting it to something that impacts the world around them,” said Ryan Boeckman, Meier’s science teacher.

The Parkway Middle School student created the game as her project and helped raise money for travel expenses.

“I think it’s really cool that even though they may not be just like us they still get a chance to do what we get to do,” said Meier.

The 13-year-old raised $3,000 from the game.
