UNION (KMOV.com) -

An accident involving two tractor-trailers both carrying hazardous materials shut down all lanes eastbound Interstate 44 in at mile-marker 247 east of Union, Missouri for several hours Thursday.

The accident occurred on eastbound I-44 just before 1:00 p.m. Thursday. A semi came over a hill and struck another semi that was sitting in traffic. A third semi was also struck, and two of them caught fire.

One of the semis was carrying paint, which prompted concern that the material may have been hazardous. Another truck was carrying food. No evacuation orders were given and there is no cause for alarm.

The westbound lanes of the interstate were reopened around 3:30 p.m. The eastbound lanes will remain closed until Thursday night.

As a result of the accident, Highway 47 and Highway 50 are parking lots as well.

Traffic is seen backing up from St. Clair to Gray Summit.

No one was injured in the accident. One lane of eastbound I-44 re-opened late Thursday. The entire highway re-opened Friday morning.
