Lead Homicide Prosecutor Mary Pat Carl told News 4 the system is helping but the cases her team has handled since the pairing started are still in the court system and it is too soon to tell if it will lead to any convictions.
“Now instead of them doing their role and analysis and us doing ours both of us are doing our own separate analysis from the beginning, which means we are covering more we have different perspectives different eyes for things,” Carl said.
Carl said throughout the month of February police brought six murder cases together to prosecutors. She said all six resulted in charges being filed and that she thought prosecutors being involved early helped.
“We have seen a difference though anecdotally when cases go to us for charging decisions we are able to charge faster and I think we are having a better charge rate,” said Carl.
