ST. LOUIS ( – Leaders across the St. Louis Metro area will address gun violence Thursday.

Circuit Attorney Jennifer Joyce will be talking about gun violence through the scope of the court system during the “gun violence through the lens of the law” program, which is sponsored by Women’s Voices Raised for Social Justice.

Officers with the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department will also be at the program to discuss gun violence and what is seen on the streets from their standpoint.

Joyce and other officials plan to discuss several topics including how guns get in the hands of criminals, the role of drugs in gun violence and how a proposed gun court might work for the area.

“I think all of us can find a way to influence a young person whether it’s someone on our block or we got through a formal mentoring organization. If you don’t want to personally do the mentoring, then you can remember that group in your charitable giving and support their efforts. If everybody does that we will see a big dent in gun violence,” Joyce said.

The event, which will take place at 7 p.m. at The Heights, 8001 Dale Avenue, in Richmond Heights, is free and open to the public.
