EUREKA, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

A south St. Louis man was charged Tuesday for his alleged role in a shooting at a Eureka shopping center during a drug deal.

Erik McKinney, Jr, 19, is charged with first-degree assault and armed criminal action.

A teen agreed to buy a controlled substance from McKinney and the two met on the parking lot of the Hilltop Village Center on April 6, police say.

The two then had a disagreement over the price. McKinney allegedly pulled out a gun, hit the victim with it and then shot the teen once. Police believe the victim pulled out a knife and stabbed McKinney.

The victim suffered serious injuries and police say he is still under the care of medical staff.

McKinney admitted to officers that he met with the victim to buy drugs and brought a gun to the meeting, police say. Authorities also say McKinney told them he disposed of the gun and his phone after the incident.
