Heading downtown? Beware of I-44 construction

Posted: Updated:

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com / MoDOT) -- Drivers who often use I-44 to get into downtown for Cardinals games may want to consider a different route Monday.

Crews are doing construction at the interchange from I-44 to northbound I-55 starting at 8 p.m. Friday, April 1 for ramp renovation work.

The ramp was closed all weekend, but reopened Monday morning.

The construction has only one lane of Interstate 44 open into downtown, resulting in slow-moving traffic.

On Monday, April 11, one lane on the ramp from eastbound I-44 to northbound I-55 will remain closed around the clock until mid-May. In addition, the ramp from Jefferson to eastbound I-44 will remain closed until mid-May.

The work on the ramps is part of regularly scheduled preventative maintenance. Crews will be removing the driving surface, making repairs to the concrete on the ramps and replacing joints. This ensures that the bridge and interchange remains in good condition for the future.
