SOUTH ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) -

A Soulard hot spot that many neighbors want to be shut down will remain open and keep its liquor license, for now, the owner said.

Tropical Liqueurs (Trops), will remain open until further notice, its owner said on the evening of April 7. In March, neighbors convinced officials to strip the establishment’s liquor license, which was supposed to take effect April 9. However, a St. Louis Circuit Judge recently reinstated the license until further notice.

The judge ruled the bar can stay open and serve liquor while the order to revoke the liquor license works its way through the courts. In the meantime, the owner said he will look into moving the bar to another location.

Neighbors had complained about the overflow crowds the bar has been attracting, saying they would spill into the street. Some nearby residents also cited safety concerns as to why they wanted the liquor license to be stripped.

Owner Billy Thompson said he has taken steps to satisfy neighbors’ concerns.
