FRANKLIN COUNTY, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

A man was arrested by the Franklin County Sheriff's Office in connection to an explosion inside a house in Catawissa Sunday evening.

Jeffery R. Baumann, 52, of Robertsville, was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a controlled substance. He is being held at the Franklin County Jail on a $25,000 cash-only bond.

The explosion could be heard by neighbors more than a mile away. Baumann refused to cooperate with investigators, but a search warrant allowed them to enter the home.

Police say they found containers of Tannerite. The substance is a legal explosive that is primarily used to make exploding targets, which detonates when hit by a bullet. However, in large quantities, Tannerite can be a powerful explosive.

They also found suspected methamphetamine and a 30.06 rifle, both used in the charges against Baumann. Police arrested Baumann at his home, 4981 Highway N, in Robertsville.

During a phone call -- on a recorded line at the jail -- to his girlfriend, Baumann asked her to return with enough cash for his bond. Police intercepted the call, went to his home and found his girlfriend with $25,000 in cash in her jacket. The girlfriend and her sister, both gave the money to the police and led them to where he had more money hidden totaling $95,000.

Investigators say they are recruiting the U.S. Attorney's office to take over the case because Baumann has previously served time on federal charges.

Also on Sunday, the drug task force arrested Bryan Whitby for possession of 1 gram of heroin and $10,020 was seized from his home.
