ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) – An off-duty police officer is being investigated for criminal DWI after his person vehicle struck a parked SUV in South City.

Jeffrey Trares, 37, who 13.8 years of service, struck an off-duty firefighter’s vehicle in the 4600 block of McCausland during the early morning hours Thursday. The car eventually settled in a flower bed.

Deputy Chief Ken Smith told News 4 his vehicle was unoccupied and parked at his home at the time of the incident.

Smith said he did not hear or see anything and the vehicle did not hit his home.

"I was sound asleep, heard my dog barking loud, knew something was up looked out my window and saw the truck had hit my car. It doesn't really phase me after almost 38 years on the fire department I've seen just about everything," says Ken Smith.

Witnesses say the driver was briefly unconscious.

Internal Affairs is conducting the investigation.

No injuries were reported.

The investigation is ongoing.
