NORTH ST. LOUIS COUNTY (KMOV.com) -

Authorities say a suspect linked to a shooting and suicide in North County shot the victim because he was upset about home maintenance the victim performed.

A 78-year-old man was shot multiple times in front of his home in the 800 block of Liberty Village around 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, police say. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition. The suspect, Triandos Sherrard, 56, left the scene.

Around the same time of the shooting, officers say they responded to another residence located in the 800 block of Liberty Village for a house fire. Police say the house belonged to Sherrard.

Police say it appears Sherrard started a fire in the home either prior to the shooting or shortly after the shooting occurred. Authorities believe he was upset about maintenance performed by the victim at the home he rented.

At 4:45 p.m., officers say they received a call about an attempted suicide in the 2000 block of McMenamy. The suspect in the shooting on Liberty Village was walking around the outside of a residence with a gun.

When officers arrived, police believe Sherrard killed himself by a self-inflicting gunshot wound.

The case is under investigation by the Bureau of Crimes Against Persons, police say.
