Crews strike gas line, sending flames 75 feet into air in Maryville, Ill.

MARYVILLE, Ill. (KMOV.com) -

One construction worker was injured when crews struck a gas line in Maryville, Illinois Wednesday afternoon, sending flames 75 feet into the air.

That explosion happened around 2:00 p.m. near the intersection of Highway 159 and Highway 162.

Police said construction crews building a new subdivision struck the 10-inch gas line, resulting in the blaze. Several cars were set on fire.

Witnesses have reported they have heard loud explosions.

People in a quarter mile radius near the explosion site were evacuated.
