EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (KMOV.com) -

An armed suspect draped in a dark clothing, mask, and gloves crawled through a drive-thru window in Edwardsville and shot an employee early Friday morning

The robbery happened around 3:45 a.m. at McDonald's located in the 1700 block of Troy Road.

The suspect, a man, displayed his weapon to three employees, who were prepping the restaurant before it opened, and demanded cash.

During the robbery, the suspect fired three shots, striking one of the employees in the leg. The man was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

"Someone could have got killed for basically for nothing," said Ron Gray, owner of the McDonald's. "This is a very quiet community and I've never had any problems."

The suspect fled the scene on foot after he was unable to retrieve any money from the cash register.

Police said they collected evidence and have surveillance footage of the robbery, but neither have been helpful in identifying the suspect.

An Illinois Highway Patrolman and his K-9 officer tracked the suspect to the east of the restaurant, but lost the scent.

The Edwardsville Police Department is asking anyone who has any information regarding the identity or the whereabouts of the suspect to call them at 618-656-2131. To leave an anonymous tip, you can call 618-692-7552.
