FERGUSON Mo. (KMOV.com) -- Ferguson has announced the hiring of a new Chief of Police.

Miami Police Department Major Delrish Moss is the new top-cop in Ferguson. Moss, 51, will replace Tom Jackson, who resigned after the protests and investigations following the 2014 death of Michael Brown. Andre Anderson filled in on an interim basis in 2015.

Moss was one of four final candidates to take over the police department. He has family in the St. Louis. He was one of six candidates to be interveiwed locally.

Major Moss has been in charge of community relations for the Miami Police Department and works with a non-profit organization that pairs police officers with children to help build community relations. In 2008, he became the Senior Executive Assistant to the Miami Police Chief.

“This has been a long and strenuous process, but we believe Major Moss is the right choice,” said Ferguson Mayor James Knowles III. “We understand the past 18 months have not been easy for everyone, but the City is now moving forward and we are excited to have Major Moss lead our police department.”
