SOUTH ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) -

A 30-year-old man is facing charges after he allegedly broke into a south St. Louis apartment in an effort to get away from police.

Brandon Swopes is charged with six felonies including burglary. Police say they decided to follow Swopes because he was driving a stolen car. Swopes then parked and police tried to arrest him.

Officers say he proceeded to run and break into a woman’s apartment on Norfolk Avenue near the Grove. Swopes was armed and was tased by police only a few feet away from the woman. He then dropped the gun, officers say.

“I was in my bedroom and heard this crash that sounded like a utility pole or that something fell on the building. I went to the front door and I saw a bunch of police officers outside,” said Kevin Atkins, neighbor.

According to police, nobody was hurt in the incident.
