ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) – A special ceremony took place to praise forgotten heroes at the Robert Young Federal Building in downtown St. Louis Tuesday afternoon.

Dozens of Vietnam veterans were on hand for a special ceremony commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War.

Bill Kiefer is a part of the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 794. He said, "It finally honors us for our service. It thanks us for our service and I think most importantly it welcomes us home. We weren't welcomed home in 1968 and 69."

Organizers say it is important to express our tremendous gratitude and support to this generation who served our country, just as we support those who have served in other conflicts around the world.
