BELLEVILLE, Ill. (KMOV.com) -

Mold is forcing some students to have class in the library at an elementary school in Belleville.

The mold problem is affecting students at Westhaven Elementary. District officials said the mold was removed during Spring Break, but class is still being held in the library even though there was a hope everything would return normal Tuesday.

“We’ve turned over the room to the independent contractor and we won’t do anything with it until they release it to us and tell us it is safe for students and staff,” said Belleville School District Superintendent Matt Klosterman.

The mold was deemed inactive, but was found along baseboards and behind walls. School leaders are waiting on test results and hope students will be back in the classroom by Friday.
