KIRKWOOD, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

Kirkwood Police arrested a suspect in connection to the report of an armed robbery that occurred on March 28.

Jamie Votaw, 35, of Brentwood, was arrested for first degree robbery Thursday. Police received an anonymous tip who recognized the suspect's vehicle - a gray, extended cab 4x4 truck with tinted windows.

The incident happened in the 100 block of West Jefferson near Mike Duffy's and PJ's Tavern at 2:30 p.m.

Police say a victim in her 70’s reported leaving a local business to go to her vehicle when she was approached by a man.

According to authorities, the man displayed a handgun and demanded the victim’s purse. The victim cooperated, handing over her purse to the suspect. She was then knocked to the ground.

The victim was not injured in the incident.

"I can't imagine the mindset of anybody that would do that," Carolyn Patton, a Kirkwood resident, said. "It breaks my heart. And I feel bad for the person who would commit such a crime because they're going to have to pay very high price like the victim and the rest of us in our community. We won't have that feeling of security anymore. "

Votaw is currently in the St. Louis County Jail and held on a $100,000 cash-only bond.
