FLORISSANT, Mo. ( - A warning has been issued for local car owners: thieves are after your rims and tires.

"I couldn't believe it. I was like who would do such a thing? I just thought the car was ruined because I don't know what damage they've done," said Vernay Anderson.

Anderson lives in Florissant at an apartment complex. It turns out, she wasn't the only one thieves went after.

"I park away from folks so it was to their advantage. I didn't go to church on Sunday, I work two jobs Monday through Friday. You know people want to be able to make their living and come home and rest as opposed to waking up to stuff like this," said Jeffery Davis, another resident at the same apartment complex.

A local car dealership that is fixing Anderson's car said they've seen the same type of damage five times already in 2016.  Don Koch with Gateway Buick GMC says the damage can reach thousands of dollars and that is why they recommend a product that stops criminals in their tracks.

"These are wheel locks.  They actually replace one of the lug nuts per wheel and there's a special key that takes to get them off," said Koch.

In the meantime, police are investigating.

"Anytime we see these types of trends like that crime there, we are going to swarm that area with police," said Sgt. Brian Shellman who is with St. Louis County Police Department.

For the victims, they say they just do not understand why this happened.

"It is kind of disappointing more or less. I work hard more or less and then you have this," said Davis.

Anderson has a suggestion for the thieves that targeted her.

"If you're that smart and that good at what you do, get a job a body shop or something put that good mind to use doing something else."
