(KMOV.com) – It’s been three months since the intense floods of late December hit the St. Louis area, causing the Fenton Plant to shut down.

“This is the first time in the history of MSD that we have lost two wastewater treatment plants; Grand Glaize & Fenton,” said MSD spokesperson Sean Hadley. “We finished repairs on our clarifying tank which is our secondary treatment process.”

MSD officials have been working nonstop to get the plant up and running since the floods damaged the facility. Hadley says the repairs are coming along and they expect to start treating the river in April.

“There are signs, advisory signs out there telling residents to avoid the river. But if you do come in contact with the river, we ask that you wash thoroughly with soap and water.” Hadley said.
