JEFFERSON COUNTY, Mo. (KMOV.com) – Mulch made from debris collected after the January flooding has been tested and deemed safe.

On February 19, officials in Jefferson County halted their free mulch giveaway until they could ensure it was safe.

Majority of the logs and limbs that were ground up to create the mulch came from the Meramec River, near the flooded Metropolitan Sewer District plant that was pumping millions of gallons of raw sewage into the river after it became flooded.

The free mulch can be picked up at Winter Park, located at 1930 Corisande Hills Drive near Fenton.
