FRANKLIN COUNTY, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

A man who may allegedly be behind 12 burglaries in Franklin County is facing charges.

Harley Thiele, 21, is charged with one count of burglary.

Police believe Thiele may be responsible for up to a dozen burglaries in and around St. Clair, Mo. He was arrested when he returned to scene of one of his alleged crimes.

“We were then able to check his residence which is nearby in St. Clair and we seized a large amount of property and were able to identify things that had come from burglaries inside the St. Clair city limits,” said Detective Jim Briggs with the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department.

Franklin County authorities are storing recovered stolen items in a semi-trailer which is running out of room. Police say many of the items can’t be returned because there is nothing identifying the owner.

“If we arrest these people and bring in large quantities of property, we can either get the serial number and match it back to your item or can look at the unique mark you put on the that item,” Briggs said.

A difficulty in matching items to their owners means it is tough to prove a crime was committed, police say.

Detectives expect more charges to be filed against Thiele, who is currently a person of interest in a string of burglaries near Table Rock Lake.
