Police in Swansea searching for suspect who threw bleach on woman

SWANSEA, Ill. (KMOV.com) – Police in Swansea are searching for the man who threw a cup of bleach on a woman inside the Specialized Living Center early Wednesday morning.

The suspect reportedly ran into the business, located at 1450 Caseyville Avenue, threw a cup of bleach on the woman and then left on foot in an unknown direction around 4:20 a.m. Police told News 4 that the victim didn't know the suspect.

"People feel safe here, so with someone out there like that, it's very scary to do such a thing," Debbie Constantinides, a nearby neighbor, said. "I don't know if it was teenagers or pranks, but hopefully they catch who did it."

The victim was taken to the hospital where she was later released with non-life threatening injuries.

The suspect was described as a man who was wearing a trench coat, superman shirt and black pants.

Anyone with information should call the Swansea Police Department.

The Specialized Living Center later released a statement on the incident:

Parents and Friends of the Specialized Living Center is fully cooperating with the Swansea Police Department and their investigation of this isolated incident. We are committed to the safety of our residents and staff. The residents were secure at all times and were protected from harm. This incident occurred in an area away from the residents. There is nothing to suggest or give us reason to suspect that an incident like this would occur. This is the first time an incident of this nature has occurred in our 30 year plus of existence. We express our concern for the well-being of our employee who was involved.
