NORTH ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) – A dog that was found shot in North City died while veterinarians attempted to amputate her leg Friday.

The shooting happened around 5:30 p.m. on March 14 near the intersection of Harney Avenue and Thrush Avenue. Police say the 2-year-old German Shepard mix named Cutie wandered away from her yard.

A short time later, police say a gunshot was heard. The dog’s owner found Cutie bleeding in an alley and called police.

Officers escorted the owner and Cutie to the Human Society of Missouri’s Animal Medical Center of Mid-America.

Veterinarians decided the best course of treatment was to amputate Cutie's leg, but during the surgery, her heart stopped. Doctors tried to restart her heart, but were unsuccessful.

A $2,500 reward is being offered by the Humane Society of Missouri for any information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible.

If anyone has information about the incident, call the Humane Society of Missouri Animal Cruelty Hotline at 314.647.4400.
