EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (KMOV.com) -- A Granite City man convicted in the 2012 beating death of a 20-month-old child was sentenced to 70 years in prison Wednesday.

John Holmon, was convicted in February, 2015 of beating Jaesean "Bug" Rusher to death. During the trial last year, jurors heard evidence that Holmon was alone with the child on September 10, 2012 when he beat him. Autopsy results showed Rusher had more than 50 injuries on him.

Holmon was not the father of the toddler, but was his mother’s boyfriend at the time and was allegedly at the house in the 2100 block of 14th Street watching the boy when the beating happened.

The State's Attorney's Office says Holmon will serve 100 percent of his sentence.
