ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) – St. Louis County has a new app to make sure residents are prepared for severe weather.

After answering five basic questions, the app, called ‘St. Louis County Prepares,’ will help create an emergency plan for your family.

In addition to sending weather alerts, the app has an evacuation map and a ‘share my status’ button, which will make it easy to contact family members during an emergency.

“All of us can open up our app, look and see what we’re supposed to do to take care of ourselves. The other thing is a lot of times in a disaster situation, you’re scared, you’re nervous, you don’t know what to do. Having that there to kind of walk you through what you need to do can be very helpful,” said Mark Diedrich, director of St. Louis County Emergency Management.

The free app can be found in your phone’s app store.
