Clinton County man facing attempted murder charges following police standoff

ALBERS, Ill. (KMOV.com) – A Clinton County man is facing multiple charges, including attempted first-degree murder, following a standoff with police Friday.

Gary T. Walthes, 37, of Albers, is being held on a $750,000 bond after multiple weapons, drug paraphernalia and a marijuana growing operation was found inside his home, according to officials.

When Clinton County Sheriff’s Deputies arrived to execute a search warrant, Walthes reportedly displayed a weapon. Following a short standoff, he was taken into custody and booked into the Clinton County Jail.

Walthes has been charged with aggravated battery with the discharge of a firearm, aggravated battery to a peace officer, felony production of between 20 and 50 cannabis plants, felony possession or use of a firearm by a felon, misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, two counts misdemeanor child endangerment and two counts of attempted first-degree murder. He was also charged with multiple deer hunting permit violations, and was wanted on an outstanding arrest warrant in St. Clair County.
