Belleville police respond after receiving report of gun being waved near high school

BELLEVILLE, Ill. (KMOV.com) – Police responded to Belleville West High School after receiving a report that a person was waving a gun while inside a vehicle.

According to a post on the district’s Facebook page, the incident occurred off school grounds while the student was traveling to the school.

The St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department and the Belleville Police Department stopped the vehicle in the roadway leading to the school and found an airsoft BB gun while searching the car. While authorities were conducting their search, there was a sizable backup in traffic. 

At no time during the incident were any students or staff in danger.
